VERIFY ORIGIN OF YOUR CATTLE

The Montana Cattlemen's Association (MCA) has been successful in requesting the Board of Livestock add language to their Bill of Sale form to allow producers to identify the origin of their cattle.  The form will allow producers to verify the origin of their cattle by simply checking a box.  The option is completely voluntary.

The form will also allow producers to identify their cattle as qualifying for the Montana Natural Beef Program.  Montana Cattlemen's Association sponsored the Montana Natural Beef legislation, which passed last year.  The rules for this program have now been completed.  Producers may identify their cattle as qualifying for this program by simply checking a box on the revised form.  Cattle must meet the requirements of the Montana Natural Beef Program and cannot be treated with hormones, antibiotics or ionophores.  This is another step in adding value to Montana calves.

Paul Ringling, MCA director from Miles City, explains, "By adding this language to the Bill of Sale form, MCA once again has stepped up to help Montana cattle producers."

Kim Baker, MCA Vice-President from Hot Springs, states, "We wish to thank the Board of Livestock for their cooperation in amending the form.  It's great to have a Board that is focused on helping producers."
