Montana Cattlemen's Association Press Release Release Date: April 15, 2009 MCA MEMBERS APPOINTED TO LIVESTOCK LOSS BOARD Montana Cattlemen's Association (MCA) is proud to announce Governor Schweitzer's appointment of John Herman to the Livestock Loss Reduction and Mitigation Board (LLRMB), which administers the state's wolf depredation compensation program. John is a fourth generation Montana rancher from Niarada. His great-grandfather started ranching in the Niarada area in 1888. He currently serves as District 1 Director for MCA. John said, "I have been living with wolves for years, but this year has been particularly challenging as wolves have been coming into our calving pasture at night, killing calves, and disappearing into the timber by daylight. I fully understand the problems many ranchers are experiencing, and I will do my best to educate and protect the interests of all parties." Governor Schweitzer also reappointed MCA Young Cattlemen's President Whitney Wankel to the LLRMB for a second term. Whitney is a Senior at Montana State University and ranches with her family near Miles City. John and Whitney join MCA member Larry Trexler of Hamilton on the seven-member Livestock Loss Reduction and Mitigation Board, and they understand firsthand how devastating wolf depredation of livestock can be to a rancher's bottom line. MCA President Brett DeBruycker stated, "I know John, Whitney and Larry will work hard on the LLRMB to help fellow Montana producers minimize livestock losses caused by wolves and will make every effort to reimburse producers fairly for their losses." |
